Bernie and I went on a belated visit to Martin Mere. The usual stuff was there - hundreds of Whoopers and a single Bewick but with the meres mostly frozen, the birds were all concentrated in one or two areas. A couple of Ruffs were in splendid plumage and I've never seen so many Shelduck!

We had a look over one of my old stomping grounds at Plex Moss and immediately found a rather large Pink-footed Goose flock that was rather obliging. However the only non-pinkfoot was a Barnacle Goose. One surprise was a Woodcock that landed in a nearby ditch briefly letting me get scope views on the deck before it flew off over the moss. After that we scoured the lanes for Partridges but only found a few Red-legged - when will I next see a Grey?
